OOooohh the daily fashion shOOoow!!

Living in La Jolla and attending school in Downtown LA is CrAzY. Currently I commute twice weekly, Monday and Friday. Luckily I enjoy driving, it's therapeutic for me. I'm alone and it's usually peaceful and quiet. I can think and pray, prioritize and make my schedule.Windows down, heater up, radio blasting. I come up with some of my greatest ideas during my commute, I map out my life, come up with different goals and count all of my blessings. Keeping my outfit in top shape is the challenge! ; )

When I first began attending classes at the Los Angeles campus, I was extrememly disapointed. The San Diego campus has a laid back, beach, hippie, casual style. A pair of jeans, t shirt, sandals and a hat or a scarf, is perfect for the San Diego campus. It's blessed with a small town vibe. The majority of the students know each other by name and the teachers know all of the students. The LA campus is much larger, students are much more competitive. Everything in LA is much larger, the city is much larger. The students aren't as friendly or outgoing, probably in part because the atmosphere is not as comfortable. The staff is more demanding and less nurturing, it is more like a business and for the students, a job. I enjoy using all three southern California campuses, I am currently taking full advantage of all of the resources available!

School is where I test all of my craziest fashion ideas. At FIDM everybody looks at your outfit, it's fashion school. I love seeing all of the other students clothing, I am very inspired at school. You can't judge people on their clothing, but it is always fun to see what pieces people put together. Some people have outrageous style but it keeps fashion and school interesting! Currently FIDM students are wearing... a lot of fur, skinny jeans, oxfords, layers, lace up boots, distressed clothing, leggings, knit hats, black, vintage inspired, rocker studs, socks with heels, high waist ed skirts, plaid shirts, leather jackets and so much more!

Here are a couple of the outfits I put together for school this week. I wore the military jacket and camel leather purse with the black dress. It's always fun to reincorporate pieces from old classic trends back into your wardrobe! The black fur disc purse in the pictures was given to me by my Grandma Lily. The silk scarf that I am wearing around my head in the pictures was given to me by my Grandma Jo. So many of my accessories were once owned and worn by my grandmothers. They both continue to inspire me!

January 2011 Fashion Photo Shoot

As a Fashion major and somebody that has always loved pictures, I have decided that I am going to start putting together monthly photo shoots. For these "fashion photo shoots," I will come up with a few different concepts, pick the models, style them and do their hair and make up. I have always been inspired by the photo spreads in fashion magazines. Vogue, Elle, W, WWD, InStyle, Glamour, Marie Claire and People Stylewatch are some of my favorite magazines to repeatedly flip through. When I was younger I dreamed of being the girl in the shoot! I got a small modeling management contract at seventeen and that was the end of my modeling career. ; ) Those dreams fizzled when I left Malibu, with the entertainment industry in my rear view mirror. It didn't occur to me until years later that I didn't need to be in the spotlight. I could be behind the scenes! There is still something so dreamy to me about styling photo shoots and taking pictures! You can turn somebody into whomever and whatever you please, telling stories in a way! My first shoot, the January Fashion Photo Shoot, was conceptualized and carried out by my younger sister, Alison and I. We started the shoot on the top of Palomar Mountain and drove to the desert. We stopped wherever we felt inspired, having already come up with several different ideas. The day did not go off without a hitch but considering it was something that we started planning a week in advance, it worked out wonderfully. For this shoot I styled myself and my sister took the pictures.  I am completely inspired and my head is overflowing with new ideas! I can't wait until February to share!!

1st Stop: Side of the Rd. on Palomar Mtn.
Ribbons and Pearls. An American Girl.

2nd Stop: Will Valley on Palomar Mtn.
 Western Boots. Country Roots.

3rd Stop: Hideout Buildings Hwy 76
Lets take your bike to the Bar, Rock Star.

4th and Final Destination: Borrego Springs
Roofie in the drink. Arizona.... I think.

That's a wrap! ; )

Lets start from the TOP, that's where you'll find the best view!! ; )

Ready?! OK!! So, Lily Jo. Lily is from my Grandma, Lillian Hurst, my father's mother. A woman with impeccable style and a passion for a great bargain. Oooh the memories of the outrageous gifts from Grandma Hurst!! The unforgettable yellow sweats I wore to school, that won me the nickname of "big bird," for the day. The countless number of felt hats that she gave us, in every color you can imagine; floral jumpsuits, MC Hammer pants, the list goes on. As I previously stated, this woman had impeccable style! Jo is from my Grandma, Joan Cherry, my mother's mother. The woman that started the sweatsuit trend. I'm not sure I have any memories growing up of my Grandma Cherry dressed in anything other than a classy, matching, jewel toned, track suit... of course she had matching accessories and she had the sweatsuits in, what seemed like, 100 different colors.
Now, I am not naming my blog after my Grandmothers because of track suits and funky hats. I am naming my blog after my Grandmothers because it was the two of them that have passed down to me their love for fashion! It is my Lily and my Jo that have inspired me to follow my dreams in pursuit of a career in the fashion industry! That's the name!!
Back to the basics. I am Lindsay. I am 25, ancient, I know. As far back as I can remember I have been interested in fashion. Growing up I enjoyed playing dress up, putting my hair in curlers, shopping in my Mom's closet, imitating other people and trying to replicate outfits that caught my eye! I live in La Jolla, a beach town in San Diego. I spend the weekends on Palomar Mountain with my sisters and their lovely families. I attend school at FIDM, all three southern California campuses. I am very social, I enjoy the company of my friends, family and most other people, but alone time is also a very important part of my life and my sanity. I do not judge. I am completely open minded. To Each Their Own! This is your life too, it's just my world you're living in. Remember that! ; )
My Style can't be defined. My style is always evolving. Through out the week, while living at the beach, I try to keep casual chic. Nobody is walking down the streets of La Jolla in five inch stilettos and a sequin swim cap, for me it's all about adaptability. I am a versatile person, I enjoy a wide variety of activities. It is vital to dress the part.  It is important to dress for yourself, as well. In order to exude confidence you must be comfortable. Some days I'm Gothic and  wear black from head to toe, others I look like a walking pinata, it's all dependent on my mood and that days events.
With this blog, I will share with you all of my latest and greatest knowledge. Trends, fashion events, icons, photo shoots, anything and everything in my life that is fashion related will be on this blog. On school days, I will take a picture of my outfit and post it to the blog, as well as any other day that I feel my outfit is particularly special! As I've gotten older I have learned how to appreciate my style as well as yours.  We don't need to look alike, in fact, I don't want to look like anybody else. The world would be boring if we all looked the same. A daily goal for myself, is to incorporate a flirty approachable vibe and always be fearless. If I think, this outfit is me, I'm going to rock it, even if I was a completely different me yesterday!!
